The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government was lashed by its own coalition partners on the floor of National Assembly where the supported the demand of Opposition for the issuance order of a production order of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker from Lahore and former railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique.
National Assembly members that belonged to Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and the Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) urged Speaker Asad Qaiser to use parliamentary powers to issue the production order of Mr Rafique. This was done because they considered that opposition party’s demand is justified.
Saad Rafique was arrested by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Dec 12 in Lahore, His bail was cancelled by the high court and the arrest was made in the wake of investigation regarding the charges against him.
The opposition protested and staged a walkout after Shehbaz Sharif told the head that it would be difficult to attend the meetings if Saad rafique is not granted issuance to attend the National Assembly meetings.
Sharif also reminded speaker that he vowed not to let parliament down in this matter.
Mr Sharif was followed by all the opposition parties such as Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Awami National Party (ANP) and the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal. Shahbaz also shaked hands with Zardari before leading walkout, boycott by opposition parties of NA session.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi urged the opposition members to get back to the house and take part in the proceedings as it’s not government alone who can run the house effectively, It’s everyone’s responsibility.
