Farmers’ protest in Lahore continued for second day

Lahore: The farmers staged a protest at Thokar Niaz Baig for another day after the talks between government officials and farmers failed on Wednesday (yesterday).

Roads have been opened by the protesters at Thokar for the vehicles going out of Lahore. However, vehicles that are entering into to the city find a heavy traffic jam due to sit-in protest by the farmers under the banner of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad.

Farmers demanded that the old urea and fertilizer price be restored immediately. They further demanded that sugar cane prices to be set by the government so they start selling it

The immediate payment of the previously arrested farmers should be cleared by the sugar mill owners, Pakistan Kissan Ittehad demanded.

They warned that if their needs and demands are not addressed they will stage protest in Mall road area. Heavy police contingent is deployed in the Thokar area to disperse the protest.

Farmers set out to march towards Lahore yesterday from various parts of Punjab to get their demands accepted. They officials of the government and farmers failed to reach a common agreement and the protest continued for another day.

A government team comprised of provincial agriculture and health ministers who had discussion with the leaders of farmers.
