LHC issues stay order over flattening Governor House’s walls

Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a stay order over a petition seeking halt to demolition of the walls of Governor House Punjab on Monday and urged that this should be done with immediate effect.

Lahore High Court Judge Mamoon Rashid while issuing stay order to stop demolition of the Governor House walls questioned that on whose orders these walls are being flattened.

Nothing will be done till Lahore High Court further orders regarding the demolition of walls.
Justice Rashid stated: ‘that these kind of orders need approval from the whole cabinet before they are publicized, according to Supreme Court orders.’

Complaint filed by a petitioner stated that the walls should not be out down since its historical building and it’s illegal to demolish heritage buildings.

The process of flattening the Governor House walls started on Saturday. In the first phase, boundary wall from Mall side to Alhamra will be demolished.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Sarwar monitored the demolition project himself following the directions of the Prime Minister.
