Pakistan urges OIC

Pakistan has urged upon the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation to play a leading role for Rohingya Muslim brothers and sisters.

Addressing the OIC Contact Group meeting in New York, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to take full part in any humanitarian effort by the OIC or UN to help the Rohingya Muslims.

He said that the recent incidents can rightly be described as a “text-book” case of ethnic cleansing.

The Prime Minister said the international community must exert its utmost pressure on the government of Myanmar to stop the carnage of the Rohingyas.

He also demanded the UN immediately allow a UN fact finding mission to the country and called for immediate access of humanitarian supplies to the affected areas.

Saudi Arabia has also called on the international community to take immediate action to halt the atrocities against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Saudi Council of Ministers at a meeting in Jeddah chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdul Aziz demanded that rights should be given to Rohingya Muslims without racial classification.

The Cabinet denounced massacres, brutal attacks and genocide being perpetrated against the Rohingya Muslims.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Theresa May has announced to suspend all its engagement with Myanmar’s military until the action against the country’s Muslim Rohingya minority is halted.

Addressing the UN General Assembly, she said we are very concerned about what is happening to the Rohingya people in Burma and the military action against them must stop. – APP
