Sydney: Australian police evacuated thousands of people in late Christmas eve after a cracking sounds was heard from a 38-storey building.
Around 3,000 people were evacuated from the tower and in the nearby building to leave late Monday. Engineers investigated that apartments were moved two-three millimeters.
South Wales Fire and rescue superintendent Greg Wright said that, “Police received a call to a loud crack on level 10 of the building located behind us”
Emergency service said, “Police identified there was a crack in the building”.
“Firefighters will be moving through the building with engineers and paramedics to asses what the damage is, and a way forward,” he informed reporters.
A police spokesperson said that building was 38 storeys high.
“We are aware of the concerns that have arisen with the Opal building and confirm that the builder has been notified,” a spokesman told.
