Over 1300 people committed suicide in Sindh in the last 5 years. The highest 646 incidents were reported in Mirpur Khas Division.
However, even in the Thar Desert, suicide cases have increased alarmingly, with the majority of those who lost their lives on their own.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) report, around 1 million people worldwide commit suicide every year, meaning that every 40 seconds an individual loses his life.
Mirpurkhas is the division in Sindh province where the highest number of suicides occurred in 5 years and 646 people took their own lives out of which 356 were women and 290 men. Hyderabad Division is second in the suicide statistics graph, with a total of 299 suicides – 183 males and 116 females.
In the Shaheed Benazirabad division, 181 people, including 106 men and 75 women, committed suicide, In Larkana division, 48 people, including 36 men and 12 women, committed suicide.
In the last five years in Karachi, 107 people committed suicide, including 82 men and 25 women.
On the other hand, the incidence of suicides has increased alarmingly in the Thar Desert, where 77 people, including 47 women, committed suicide this year.
The majority of suicide in Thar were women living their married lives. Causes of suicide in Thar include unemployment, poverty, domestic conflicts, illness, depression, and other factors.
