15 die in heavy snowfall in upper areas of Balochistan


2 days of snowfall and rains have caused devastation in different areas of Balochistan during which 15 people were killed in accidents.

Due to heavy snowfall, contact roads were closed at Ziarat, Mastung, Qila Saifullah, Qila Abdullah, Harnai and Bolan.

According to media reports, In the upper parts of Balochistan, 3 to 4 feet of snow recorded. 

Chief Meteo­rologist Dr Azmat Hayat Khan said heavy snowfall in Quetta had already broken the 20-year record.

According to the report of Pakistan Disaster Management Authority, 6 people were killed in different accidents in Qila Abdullah, 6 in Zhob and 3 in Pishin.


On the other hand, due to snow and weather conditions, all flights arriving in and out of Quetta have been cancelled. Due to the closure of 10 feeders, electricity has been lost in most parts of the city.

The provincial government has imposed snow emergency in 7 districts, due to heavy snowfall.

On the situation in Balochistan, Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan said that the provincial government is fully motivated to open roads and provide all possible help to the people.

Due to heavy snowfall and rains in Balochistan, a special anti-polio campaign has been postponed for 2 days in three districts of Harnai, Sibi and Mastung.
