20-member Chinese team visits historical sites in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A 20-member delegation from China visited the Peshawar Museum and historical sites here on Tuesday.

Members of the Chinese delegation that arrived in Peshawar took interest in the historical sites and the culture of the areas. Sites of Gandhara civilization were sighted and artifacts of Buddhism were preserved by the museums of Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. Chinese delegation were delighted to see the preservation of the Buddhist artifacts

The general manager of the Tourist Information Centres, Mohammad Ali Syed, gave warm welcome the Chinese delegates and took them to various cultural and historical sites.

Curator Mohammad Asif spoke to the delegation regarding the archaeological sites in Pesha­war and how they were preserved over time, informed the Tourism Corporation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Tourism Corporation officer said that Chinese guests will share their experiences and knowledge with the archaeologists and researchers and might help in excavating the area to explore more historical sites and bring tourism to the country.

The Chinese delegation also visited the historical Masjid-i-Mahabat Khan, Qis­sa Khawani Bazaar, Sarafa Bazaar (Andar Shehr), Ghanta Ghar, Chowk Yadgar and other sites of interest in the city.

Chinese delegation expressed that Peshawar is a historic and safe city, the foreign visitors informed that people of the city and across the country are hospitable and friendly.

“The followers of Buddhism would find a treasure trove of Buddhist statues and heritage after thorough research and revival of these sites,” they said.

Tourism officials told that excavation on archaeological sites can be carried out using modern techniques and methods.
