50 dead in an avalanche in Azad Kashmir


50 bodies of dead people have been recovered from a snowstorm in Azad Kashmir Neelam Valley, while the total number of deaths has been increased to 51 during severe snowfall and storm.

Ahmed Raza Qadri, Minister of Disaster Management of Azad Kashmir, says the recent snowfall and storms are likely to increase the number of casualties.

The dead included women and children, and 3 vehicles were also destroyed in the avalanche, he said.

Ahmad Raza Qadri says rescue operation is underway with the help of the Pakistan Army, but relief operations are facing problems due to ground contact.

He said that Pak army helicopters were transporting the injured to the hospital.

According to the State Department Management Authority (SDMA), goods, warm clothing and other relief goods are being sent to the affected areas.
