A group of Afghan youth has taken a breakdance approach to cope with depression in the aftermath of the suicide attacks and the never-ending war in Afghanistan.
The youth of this dance group, ‘Top Step’, are trying to learn new breakdance styles at the French Culture Center in Kabul. These include top rocking, head spin, and freeze. They watch videos of well-known break dancers using YouTube and crave similar skills.
Afghan breakdancer Murtaza says, ‘Breakdance keeps us away from stress and war. It gives us freedom. With the help of it, we forget about the hassle, war, and casualties of living in Kabul. ‘
