Army Chief extension: Govt demands stay order on SC ruling

ISLAMABAD: The government has sought a stay order from the Supreme Court on the extension of the post of army chief.

The government has requested the Supreme Court in a stay order that the execution of the November 28 order is adjourned till the decision on the review petition.



It is to be noted that the Supreme Court on November 28, dismissing the government notification for extension of the Army Chief’s term, ordered the government to legislate in this regard in 6 months.

The federal government has also filed a petition for review to the Supreme Court on a judicial decision regarding extension of the Army Chief’s term.

Earlier, on January 1, the Federal Government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had approved amendments to the Army Act during an emergency cabinet meeting.
