Islamabad: Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and the affectees of 2005 earthquake came to an agreement on Monday under which ERRA will build new Balakot city for the quake survivors.
According to agreement an apex committee led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary would be constituted to take measures for the new city. Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) would provide Rs 16bn for the construction of new Balakot city, with its detailed infrastructure.
According to the agreement 6% land to build the new city will be taken back from the encroachers. However Deputy Commissioner Mansehra has promised to provide 94% land for the project.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court had berated the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) for not constructing even a single home or a road in Balakot after 2005 earthquake.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar led the three-member bench and heard a suo motu notice relating to alleged corruption in the grants and donations that were dedicated for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the earthquake survivors.”
The attorney general told court that ECNEC approved the rehabilitation project worth Rs 12bn in 2007.
