Blizzard kills 62 in Azad Kashmir, many missing

Heavy Snowfall

Avalanche killed 62 people and injured dozens and many went missing during heavy snowfall in Azad Kasmir.

Rainfall and snowfall in Azad Kashmir have left 62 dead. 19 people were killed in an avalanche in the same village of Neelam Valley, Sargon Bogoli.

Telephone and electricity systems in the upper areas including Neelam and Lipa were disrupted. The contact roads of various districts are also closed due to snow and people have been blocked in their homes.

Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan said that rainfall and snowfall across the state so far have killed 62 people and injured 47. 59 people died in Neelam Valley.

On the other hand, Kotli, Rawalkot, and Sadhnoti 1 man died in each, Moreover, over 56 houses were completely destroyed in Neelam Valley.

Minister of State for Disaster Management Authority Ahmed Raza Qadri told media that the bodies of 49 people have been recovered in Neelam Valley.

Helicopters of the Pak Army are shifting the injured to the hospital. A rescue operation is also underway to search for persons under the snow.
