An Indonesian student, Reynhard Sinaga, a UK resident, has been convicted of 136 rapes, 8 alleged rape cases and 14 sexual assaults in 4 separate cases.
The UK court said in its ruling that Sinaga would have to spend at least 30 years in prison. The court, in its decision, also lifted the ban on media reporting of the case after which Sinaga’s identity was disclosed.
Reynhard Sinaga, 36, is already serving a life sentence in two cases in which he has to spend at least 20 years in prison.
In a court ruling on Monday, Judge Suzanne Goddard said Sinaga was “a devilish sex predator that would be dangerous to release at any time.”
Sinaga’s waited for the men to come out of the nightclubs and offered them liquor and then take them to his flat. He often hunts drunk men, then offered them a taxi and rape the victim on his flat.
He used to give unconscious drugs to victims before sexually assaulting them. After waking up, most of the victims did not remember what had happened to them.
During the trial, the statements of the victims were also read. One victim said in his statement that Sinaga destroyed 1 part of his life. While another person hoped that he would never come out of jail and continue to rot in hell.
Ian Rushton, who is a Crown Prosecution Service official after the trial, said: “Sinaga is the most dangerous rapist in the history of Britain and possibly the most dangerous in the whole world”.
Sinaga was doing his PhD from the University of Leeds before his arrest. He committed these sexual assaults over 10 years.
Sinaga was arrested in June 2017 when a victim became conscious during the attack and resisted and called the police.
When police seized Sinaga’s cellphone, they found hundreds of hours of footage that Snaga made during his sexual assault, which led to the Rape’s largest investigation into British history.
The exact number and nature of Sinaga’s crimes may never be known, Assistant Police Constable Mabs Hussain said.
