Islamabad: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday sought the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Maria Fernanda Espionesa to play her role in resolving the Kashmir dispute.
A joint press conference of the UNGA president and Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi was held here in Islamabad at Foreign Office on Friday Afternoon. The foreign minister urged that Unite Nations General Assembly president must play her role in solving the long-standing Kashmir issue.
Various other issues were also brought to light, such as the progress of the country and socio-economic development.
“Pakistan is a peaceful country and wants to live peacefully with neighbours. It wants better ties with neighbouring countries,” he added. “India had been breaching the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) with consistency.”
President Espionesa confessed that Pakistan played an important role in the Afghan peace process and urged that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan is the need to stabilize economic and social conditions in South Asia.
The UNGA president lauded Pakistan for hosting over 2 million Afghan refugees that were badly effected in war-torn area. She mentioned that her visit to Pakistan and meeting with the Pakistani foreign minister remained productive.
She also appreciated the steps government has taken to mitigate the climatic risks and ensure the rights and empowerment of women.
The UNGA president landed in Islamabad on Friday for an official five-day visit. It was the first visit of any UNGA president since the last visit in 2010.
