‘Foreign troops to quit Afghanistan in 18 months under draft deal’

The United States and Taliban have agreed on a draft peace deal stipulating the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan within 18 months of the agreement being signed.

Taliban sources revealed this at the end of six days of talks with U.S. special peace envoy Zalmay Khalilzad in Qatar aimed at ending the United States’ longest war.

Meanwhile, the U.S. peace envoy leading talks with the Taliban to end the war in Afghanistan confirmed that progress had been made in six days of discussions in Qatar.

Zalmay Khalilzad in a tweet said that no deal had been finalised with the Taliban but he expressed confidence, saying further talks would resume shortly.

He said significant progress has been achieved on vital issues.
