Leading lawmaker and former Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim passed away in Karachi at the age of 91 after a prolonged illness.
Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim was a prominent lawmaker, constitutional expert, he served as a senior advocate of the Supreme Court, former Minister of Law, former Attorney General of Pakistan, former Supreme Court judge and former Governor Sindh.
He served as Attorney General of Pakistan during Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s regime and later served as Governor Sindh.
In March 1981, he was counted among the few judges who refused to take oath under General Zia ul Haq’s PCO.
Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim was the Chief Election Commissioner in the 2013 general election and concerns were expressed by the political parties on which he resigned after the election.
