Karachi: The Pakistan People’s Party led provincial government and the opposition in the house reached a consensus on the constitution of the Assembly’s standing committees on Friday.
Pakistan People’s Party showed satisfaction over the proposal put forward by opposition parties’ alliance in the provincial legislature, that says chairmanship of at least eight committees will be awarded to members from the opposition benches.
The committees review the performance of the important ministries and departments, including education, transport, live stock, and forests, will be assigned to opposition members.
It should be noted that the Sindh Assembly has 34 standings committees. Each standing committee consists of 11 elected members under Section 160 of the Sindh Assembly Rules.
Their responsibilities are frequent reviews of the ministries and their performance. The works assigned to various departments are on-time or not and if the complaints are properly addressed or not?
These committees are given duties to review and scrutinize the bills and legislative papers which are forwarded to them by the House.
