ICC plans to add more team in T20 World Cup

T20 World Cup

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has started considering increasing the number of teams in the T20 World Cup keeping in view the promotion of the game and the interest of the fans.

In October this year, 16 teams will participate in the Schedule T20 World Cup in Australia, but at the events held on the calendar from 2023 to 2031, the ICC has begun to increase the number of teams to 20.

The first T20 World Cup in the next eight-year schedule is scheduled in 2024 and potentially 20 teams will participate in the event.

According to reports, if 20 teams are divided into groups, then 4 groups will be formed and each group will consist of 5 teams whose best teams will make to the knockout round.

It should be remembered that this time the best teams qualified directly for the event and the rest of the teams had to make it to the World Cup by playing qualifying rounds and the same procedure could be followed if the event of 20 teams will be held.

The ICC believes that the T20 format is the best source of cricket promotion worldwide and as the number of teams from the other countries will be added, the game will become popular worldwide.

It should be remembered that there are 32 teams participating in the FIFA World Cup, but for the promotion of the game, the number of teams participating in the 2026 World Cup has been increased to 48.

The International Cricket Council has made considerable efforts to promote interest in the US market and increasing the number of teams in the Cricket World Cup will increase the chances of the US playing the World Cup as well.
