Islamabad High Court will hear Nawaz’s appeal challenging Al Azizia verdict

Hearing of former premier Nawaz Sharif’s relating to appeal seeking a suspension of his sentence in the Al Azizia case will be held today (Monday).

Two-member bench is formed in Islamabad High Court which comprised of Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamer Farooq, who will hear the case.

Nawaz Sharif has filed in his petition that his sentence be suspended until the final verdict in his appeal challenging the case is announced. Nawaz Sharif is currently jailed in Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore serving his seven years of imprisonment.

Accountability Court convicted Nawaz Sharif on December 4 in Al-Azizia reference and sentenced seven years of imprisonment and a huge fine of $25 million.

Nawaz’s legal team filed an appeal against the case last year, even before the verdict was announced but the accountability court. They say demanded that Nawaz must be set free until  final verdict is surfaced.

It should be noted that NAB has challenged the accountability court’s verdict in the Flagship case, where Nawaz Sharif was acquitted because there were insufficient evidences against him.
