Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) issued notices on Wednesday to the Punjab chief secretary and Lahore Lord Mayor to give their responses on a petition challenging the Punjab government’s decision of lifting a ban on Basant festival.
High court bench has officially directed to submit their responses on the petition by Jan 15.
On Dec 19, the Punjab government showed its decision to lift the ban imposed on celebrating Basant marks the beginning of the season and attracts tourist around the world.
The plea was registered by a woman who challenged the section-4 of the Punjab Prohibition of Kite Flying Ordinance 2001, which comprises of further four sub-sections, ‘registration, permission for kite flying and kite flying association.’
She said in her plea that Supreme Court banned this activity and its restoration is violation. “it is the violation of a fundamental right to allow kite flying”.
The petitioner said it state’s responsibility to ensure safety of the lives of the citizens.
She urged the court to declare Punjab government’s decision void in the light if the decision pout by the top court.
Previosu;y, Minister Fayazul Hassan Chohan had announced lifting the ban on Basant on Dec 18.
