Mian Nawaz Sharif arrested in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case


Lahore: NAB authorities arrested former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The PML-N leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif were presented by the NAB to the Accountability Court in connection with the hearing of Chaudhry Sugar Mill’s case where the case is proceeding.

Strict security arrangements have been made outside the court on the occasion of Nawaz Sharif’s presence. A large number of PML-N workers are present outside the accountability court while the police have blocked the road to the court. NAB team presented former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to the accountability court in Lahore, a large number of activists and leaders reached the court. Activists shouted slogans in the court while heavy police force was deployed on the occasion.

Many of the workers also entered the room, where a lot of mismanagement took place and the table in the courtroom was broken due to the push. Talal Chaudhry, leader of the PML-N, fell down after the table was broken. Rush in court also made it difficult for Nawaz Sharif to reach the roster.

When the proceedings of the case started in the accountability court, the NAB investigating officer requested physical remand of Nawaz Sharif. On the occasion of the proceedings, the court asked the investigating officer whether Nawaz Sharif was shown warrant arrest at the time of his arrest. To which the investigating officer replied that Nawaz Sharif was arrested after showing the warrant arrest regularly.

The arguments of the NAB prosecutor

NAB Prosecutor said in his arguments that Nawaz Sharif got the highest shareholder in 2016. Nawaz Sharif was a shareholder in Chaudhry Sugar Mill and Shameem Sugar Mill. NAB Prosecutor said that Nawaz Sharif owned 43 million shares in 1992, Maryam Nawaz, Shahbaz Sharif and others were shareholders in Chaudhry Sugar Mill. Mian Nawaz Sharif did not tell how he got so many shares in 1992. Nawaz Sharif got 98738 USD that was provided by a foreign company in 1992. Chairman NAB Justice Javed Iqbal approved the arrest of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Chaudhry Sugar Mills Case.

NAB Day Care Center will be given sub-jail status for Nawaz Sharif. NAB Lahore sources said that Nawaz Sharif is the main accused in Chaudhry Sugar Mills from which NAB officials want to investigate. For Nawaz Sharif, the NAB Day Care Center will be given the status of a sub-jail while additional personnel will be posted for security. According to sources, NAB has requested former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to investigate in jail. Sharif family is accused of money laundering through Chaudhry Sugar Mills.

On the other hand, the Lahore Accountability Court Lahore allowed Nawaz Sharif to be interrogated in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. NAB’s Prosecutor Hafiz Asad Awan filed a petition, stating that Nawaz Sharif is currently imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail; NAB has to investigate Mian Nawaz Sharif in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. Because of this, he could not appear for investigation, so the court should allow Mian Nawaz Sharif to be interrogated in jail. On this, the court allowed Mian Nawaz Sharif to be interrogated in jail on NAB’s request.
