Mohmand Dam will start from January’s second week: Wapda

Islamabad: The work of Mohmand Dam project will start in the second week of January, WAPDA officials told this on Wednesday.

Retired General Muzammil Hussain,Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has informed that all initial preparations have been made to start the construction work of the Mohmand Dam.

State Radio told that Wapda chairman during a press conference in Islamabad informed that mega project of the construction of Mohmand Dam will begin in the joint venture comprising a Chinese company CGGC and a Pakistani company Descon after clearing all the formalities in accordance with the PPRA rules.

The CGGC and the Descon company have 70-30% shares in the making of the project respectively, he said.

He further informed that negotiations are going on and after the finalisation of the evaluation process, the contractor is likely to come by mid-march.

He told that last year WAPDA completed four projects including Neelum-Jehlum hydro power, Katchi Kanal, Tarbela-IV Extension, Golen Gol hydro power projects. He told that all these power-generation units are contributing cheap electricity to the National grid.
