More load-shedding in Punjab as four power plants closed down

Lahore: Punjab likely to experience more hours of load-shedding as announced by the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) on Wednesday.

Sources informed that at least four of Pepco’s power plants have shut down owing to technical faults and smog.

The power plants at Guddu, Baloki, Nishat and Nishat Choniyan were tripped resulting an immediate shortfall of 250 MW informed the power supply company.

As a result of this unannounced load-shedding might be experienced at various parts of the Punjab. The duration period of the load-shedding will automatically be extended in these areas.

Additional 1000 MW has also been taken out from Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), Quetta, to manage the shortfall, the officials informed.  Power supply companies expressed hopes that normal distribution of electricity will be resumed as soon as the technical problem is fixed in the power plants.

This shortfall has resulted in the power outage after every one hour in Lahore and other parts of Punjab.
