Lahore: The Punjab Home Department formed a new Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Thursday for a 2014 Model Town incident investigation from scrap.
Notification is issued by Home Department on Thursday that said new Joint Investigation team (JIT) will be formed to probe Model Town incident of 2014 from the start.
Notification mentioned that JIT will be led by Inspector General (IG) of Motorways A.D. Khawaja.
The Punjab additional chief secretary informed media that the JIT will consist of officials from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Military Intelligence (MI) and the Intelligence Bureau (IB)
Director Inspector General (DIG) Headquarters police Gilgit-Baltistan Qamar Raza will also be the part of the new JIT, he added.
Supreme Court of Pakistan winded up a petition in the Model Town case on December 5 after the government made sure that new JIT will be constituted to investigate Model town case.
The apex court bench presided by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heed its hearing to decide whether the petition for the formation of new joint investigation team was permissible.
The apex court on October 6 took serious notice of the petition by Bisma Amjad, who was the daughter of Tanzila Amjad who was among those martyred in the Model Town firing incident.
On June 17, 2014, around 14 people were killed and 100 others injured when the police opened fire to disperse protesting Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers during an operation outside the residence of Qadri.
