Pakistan to donate $ 3 million in SAARC fund

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has pledged to donate $ 3 million in a COVID-19 Emergency Fund established under the South Asian Regional Cooperation Organization (SAARC).

The fund was established following the proposal of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Government of Pakistan has pledged $ 3 million in the SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help with regional efforts to fight the Coronavirus,” the Foreign Office statement said.

It may be recalled that the Prime Minister of India had proposed the creation of the Fund at the SAARC Summit on March 15 via video link.

India announced a $ 10 million grant to the fund to help countries in the region cope with the global outbreak.

Other countries, Sri Lanka pledged $ 5 million, Bangladesh $ 1.5 million, Nepal and Afghanistan $ 10 million, Maldives $ 2 million and Bhutan pledged $ 1 million to donate.
