Peshawar’s malls have seven days to stop using plastic bags

The Provincial Capital, Peshawar District Administration has imposed a partial ban on the use of plastic bags in the city.

According to the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government the plastic waste will be cut down to the minimum, Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh issued a notification recently on Tuesday and ordered shopping malls and medical stores to stop giving plastic bags and replace them with bio-degradable bags and paper bags instead.

The malls in the city have been given seven-days to replace the plastic bags with the paper or bio-degradable bags while medical stores and grocery stores are given 15 days for the replacement.

Provincial government directed the local govt to issue the notice of stop using plastic bags since it has increased population

The ban is not yet applicable on street vendors and small shops.
