ISLAMABAD: The PML-N has decided to support the Government on the issue of extension of the post of Army Chief.
The government had decided to contact the PML-N and other opposition parties to unanimously approve the amendment of the Army Act in parliament by extending the term of army chief.
In this regard, a delegation comprising Senate Leader of the House Shibli Faraz and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Azam Swati, headed by Defense Minister Pervez Khattak met the leaders of the PML-N in the chamber of the opposition leader.
Former Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, former Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq and Rana Tanveer met with the government delegation from the PML-N.
Responding to reporters’ questions after the meeting, Khattak said that the contacts with opposition on the extension of the post of army chief are still going on.
On the other hand, the PML-N leader Mushahidullah Khan said that the party fully supported the Army Act Amendment Bill.
After a meeting with government members, PML-N sources said that the party leadership in London had approved the bill unconditionally.
The PML-N leadership said in its message that the PML-N does not want to make the post of Army chief controversial, so the party will unconditionally support amending the Army Act.
It should be remembered that the Supreme Court had on November 28 extended a conditional extension of 6 months to the post of Army Chief and ordered Parliament to legislate in this regard.
