Power breakdown hits parts of Karachi after rain

Karachi: The weather in Karachi turned extremely cold after thunderstorm and rain hit the city Sunday night and as a result light went down in several areas.

As soon as the heavy lightning struck the city along with light showers of rain, many of the area experienced power crackdown. It was told that almost half of the  city was disconnected due to the tripping of feeders.

Moderate to light showers of rainfall were reported in North Nazimabad, I. I. Chundrigar Road, North Karachi, Liaqatabad, Federal B Area, Kharadar, Sharah-e-Faisal, Malir, New Karachi and outskirts which turned the weather chillier.

A cold wave swept across the Pakistan again on Saturday morning as the snow began to fall in the northern areas of Pakistan.

A spokesperson for K-Electric informed that there was a power breakdown in “few areas of Karachi due to rain”.

There is a “power outage on the PMTs [pad-mounted transformers] in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Johar, North Karachi, Orangi Town, and Garden”, he said, adding that power would “resume soon the affected areas”.

He further told that K-electric team is busy resolving the faults and the electricity is likely to be resumed soon.

Met office has forecast the rain in days to come in the plains of Punjab an Sindh till Monday night.
