ISLAMABAD: PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has announced conditional support of the Army Act Amendment Bill, saying that the PML-N should have consulted before the Army Act Bill.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while talking to the media on the Army Act Amendment Bill in Parliament, said that the government is making the Army Act amendment controversial like the Army Chief’s notification.
Government and PML-N are working together to hasten legislation, PML-N yesterday announced unconditional support to amend the bill.
“I think this should not be done so, the Leader of Opposition, Shahbaz Sharif should consult all Opposition parties before making the decision but the PML-N did not take us in confidence”, Bilawal added.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said, “I hope this bill will be passed as per the parliamentary procedure.”
Bilawal Bhutto said, “It would be appropriate to send this bill to the Standing Committee on Defense before approving it in the National Assembly.”
“We supported General Kayani extension during PPP tenure. We do not oppose extension but we want parliamentary rules to be followed”, Bilawal said.
Bilawal added that the success of Parliament is that the matter came to Parliament.
The court acknowledged that the source of power lies within the Parliament, this is a very sensitive matter, considering its sensitivity it should be resolved carefully, Bilawal Bhutto said.
