Islamabad: Prime Minister office is still being used as Prime Minister’s house instead of a university. Earlier, it was officially announced to convert PM House into an international standard university.
According to official sources, all important meetings of the Prime Minister are held in the Prime Minister House these days however, The Cabinet meeting is held in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, also known as the Prime Minister’s Office.
Important members of the Prime Minister’s staff, including the Secretary to the Prime Minister and the Military Secretary, all live in the Prime Minister House as before.
Information Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan says government policy on PM House will not change. She said that regular meetings are held in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, but the prime minister meets with important foreign delegations at his office in the Prime Minister’s House.
She further, said that due to the limited space in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, important meetings have to be held in the Prime Minister’s House.
In December 2018, the authorities announced that the king-size PM House will be converted into an international university, which will be named as Islamabad National University (INU).
Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood also confirmed to media that the Institute for Advanced Studies and Research will be established in the Prime Minister’s House, which will be later on converted into an Internation University.
It was also promised that in addition to the Prime Minister House, the Governor House and the Chief Minister’s House would also be converted into public parks so that the public could use them.
To promote efficiency and simplicity, the Prime Minister preferred not to stay in a governmental residence. Instead, He stayed in his house. It is said in the previous PPP government, a foreign government used to spy on federal cabinet meetings. Because of complexity, the security officials have said to move all the important meetings to the Prime Minister House.
