Multan Sultans started its campaign of 5th edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) beautifully and won its 1st game against Lahore Qalandars easily.
Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to bowl first but it was not looking good decision because Qalanders’ openers made quick-fire runs in the powerplay especially Australian Chris Lynn made 39 runs on just 19 balls. Fakhar Zaman made 19 runs on 14 balls.
But after the powerplay, Lahore batting lineup collapsed and no player could manage to score big runs. Ben Dunk was run out by Shahid Afridi on just 3 runs. Hafeez 14, Vilas 19 and David Wiese got out on just 3 runs.
The Captian of Qalandars remained not out on 33 runs and arrived the score of its team at 138 for 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Sultans’ spinners Moeen Ali and Tahir bowled excellent and took 2 wickets each. Young fast bowler Ilyas also took 2 wickets.
In reply, Sultans batted beautifully and chased the target of 139 runs before 23 balls. Only Shaheen Afridi was the bowler from Lahore who bowled in good areas and took 1 wicket for 18 runs.
David Wiese and Haris Rauf also took 1 wicket each but could not play a role in the success of Lahore Qalandars.
For Multan Sultans Captain Shan Masood scored 38 runs and Rilee Rossouw made 32 runs and laid the foundation of win.
Shahid Afridi made quick-fire 21 runs in the end and play a handy role in Sultans’ success.
