The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA has informed people that their long-anticipated Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) will become effective from December 1.
This was officially announced on Wednesday by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
The DIRBS is a system that is implemented to combat the smuggled devices that are either tax-free and generate no revenue or might make their consumers prone to security issues.
Devices that are bought before December 1 and have not registered with PTA but have a working connection will keep working. The PTA staff will pair those handsets with the associated connection that is inserted in the mobile device.
After December 1 all mobile devices that have a non-standard International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) will be permanently blocked by the PTA.
PTA has frequently reminded its consumers through a messaging service and informed them to know the status of their devices.
Users have to send their 15-digit IMEI number through SMS to 8484.
