Rawalpindi: A special custom court in Rawalpindi expressed displeasure of Ayyan Ali’s continued absence from the trial proceedings of a currency smuggling case.
“Upon failure to turn up, the process to declare her a proclaimed offender will be initiated,” warned the court.
The court dismissed the petitions filed by the model seeking exemption from appearing in court, cancellation of non-bailable arrest warrants issued against her.
Custom prosecutor Amin Feroze said that it had been two years since she last showed up in the court. Her counsel contended said that she is afraid of being upon arrival in country and several requests were made to cancel her arrest warrants.
The court released non-bailable arrest warrants against Ayyan Ali after she didn’t appear in court despite orders. Her lawyer showed medical certificate and requested that she cannot appear because of ill-health.
The court, however, dismissed turned down the request and repeated non-bailable warrant for the model’s arrest.
Ayyan Ali is in spotlight since March 2015 when authorities, arrested her at the VIP lounge of Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad on money laundering charges before she could leave for Dubai.
