Sindh government to intentionally cut downasaA IG’s powers

KARACHI: Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Murtaza Wahab will preside a meeting of an inter-ministerial committee on January 9 to review the powers of Police high-command.

It is reported on Thursday that Sindh Minister’s Adviser Murataz Wahab will hold a meeting on January 9 where the different powers of the Inspector General (IGP) and other officials will be reviewed. Withdrawal of powers such as procedures for transfers, postings and promotions in the police force will be discussed in the meeting.

The meeting is also conducted to improve the morale and progress of the Sindh Police department.

Sources informed that detailed draft bill will be finalized in connection with reforms in the Police department which will be sent to Sindh cabinet for review.

The bill once approved by the cabinet will be sent to the provincial assembly to amend and regulate the laws.

Couple of years back, on September 7, 2017, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP)-led Sindh government had suffered a blow as the Sindh High Court had rejected its decision to send provincial police chief A.D Khawaja packing. The court ordered the police official to continue working in office.

The court ruled that provincial government cannot remove Inspector General (IG) from his post.
