ISLAMABAD: The Joint Standing Committee on Defense of the National Assembly and Senate has approved three amendments to the Army Act, Navy Act and Air Force Act to extend the tenure of the service chiefs.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati said amending bills related to the extension of the tenure of the chief of the armed forces would be presented to the National Assembly on Saturday.
The Defense Minister also introduced the Pakistan Air Force Amendment Act 2020 and Pakistan Naval Amendment Act 2020, after which all three bills were forwarded to the Standing Committee on Defense and the assembly meeting was adjourned till 11 am tomorrow.
A meeting of the Standing Committee on Defense was held on Friday to approve the bills between the government and the opposition, following which a joint meeting of the Standing Committee on Defense National Assembly and Senate approved the three bills.
Law Minister Farogh Naseem talking to media said that all three bills were unanimously approved by all parties.
He said that the PML-N, the PPP, the JUI-F have neither opposed the bill nor proposed any amendment, we thankful to them for supporting the bill.
