Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) expressed displeasure over the absence of the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) investigation officer during the hearing of a corruption case against a citizen on Wednesday.
Sindh High Court Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, who also led the bench, lashed NAB Sindh director general, saying, “Make the corruption watchdog a national institution and not a symbol of fear.”
The NAB Director General appeared before the court on the summon.
As the today’s hearing of the court started, the chief justice ordered the bureau to stop bringing people without any solid evidence. “This is the situation of NAB as its director general is appearing in court while the whereabouts of investigating officer are unknown. This is the reason NAB inquiries are getting delayed.”
Bench also warned that NAB chairman can be summoned to give explanation if it continued.
The court heard the petition filed by Ghulam Shabeer Sheikh against probing launched against him over alleged financial wrongdoings and corruption.
NAB DG upon warning said that he will make sure that investigation officer appears in the court under any conditions.
The hearing was dismissed till Thursday (tomorrow).
