President Donald Trump visited US-Mexico border to stress his demand for a wall, day after he left negotiations with Democrats in a political crisis that hindered government progress.
Trump left the White House and went through Texas, where he was likely to visit the community of McAllen and meet locals patrol agents on the border.
“We want a secure country,” Trump briefed journalist right before his departure.
Texas trip gives Trump another reason to build a high profile stage to advocate his Mexican wall plan.
Trump wants $5.7 billion for construction of a wall that he mentioned is the one way to avoid violent crime crisis caused by an insecure border. Democrats, on the other hand think that this wall would not resolve serious immigration problems and is only a way to self satisfy the president.
Trump has tried to pressure Congress that his demands be addressed and in a way has halted the government processes.
The president repeated his threat if Democrats don’t stop going against him, he would declare a national emergency and will deal congress his way.
“If we don’t make a deal, I think it would be very surprising to me not to declare a national emergency”, he said.
