US President Donald Trump has announced his plan for peace in the Middle East. Several Israeli leaders have been invited to the White House to discuss the issue, but no Palestinian leader has been invited.
US President Donald Trump says he will announce his plans in the next few days to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The US-sponsored project for peace in the Middle East is being released after almost two years of delay.
Several leading Israeli leaders are scheduled to visit Washington next week, where they will meet with US President Donald Trump.
It is reported that the US plan for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is comprised of dozens of pages, and it proposes solutions to long-standing problems, such as disagreements over the city management of Jerusalem. While many details on economic issues have already been made public in this project, very little details have yet been made about the political nature of the proposal. Most parts of the aforementioned project have been drafted by US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and his adviser, Jared Kushner.
Speaking to reporters in Florida on Thursday, Trump said both Israelis and Palestinians want peace. “This is a great project. This is a plan that can actually work.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his political rival Benny Gantz are likely to arrive in Washington on January 28.
The plan will likely be released before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in the US.
General elections are due in Israel in March. Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump have an ideological friendship and accept the White House invitation.
There is an impression that the proposed peace plan will be in line with the policies of the previous US administration, which is generally in favour of Israel, but the Trump administration has made significant changes to give Israel more leeway.
No Palestinian leader was invited to Washington for talks prior to the announcement of the project. US President Trump says his administration had talked to Palestinian officials who rejected the plan. President Trump said, “We talked to him briefly but after some time, we will talk to him again.”
A spokesman for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned, “Israel and the US administration should not cross the red line.”
