US Secretary of Defense requested Qamar Bajwa to reduce tension in region

Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa said in a telephonic conversation with the US Secretary of Defense that Pakistan wants to ease the current tensions in the region.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa received a telephone call from US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper discussing the security situation in the Middle East.

Mark Esper said that the United States does not want any conflict in the region, but if the answer is inevitable, the US will respond with force.

The Army Chief told the US Secretary of Defense: “We want to reduce the current tensions and fully support every initiative taken for peace in the region.”

He urged the concerned parties to adopt diplomatic procedures rather than emotional decisions and said, “We have done a lot of work for peace in the region by fighting terrorism.”

According to the statement shared by ISPR, General Qamar Javed Bajwa said, “We will continue to play a constructive role in the success of the Afghan peace process so that it does not fall off the board and the region moves towards resolving existing conflicts rather than new conflicts.”
