Washington: Appreciating Pakistan’s decision of opening Kartarpur Corridor, the US State Department has said it will increase people-to-people contact between India and Pakistan.
In a press statement, the State Department remarked, “we encourage steps that build confidence and foster dialogue between the two countries.”
The US showed concern over the opening of Kartarpur corridor and really appreciated the step. It said that the ease of tension between two countries will not only benefit them but the whole region.
Prime Minister Imran Khan laid the foundation stone of Kartarpur Corridor on Wednesday in Narowal district that will connect with India’s district. The move was initiated to help Sikh pilgrims who would annually visit Pakistan to pay tribute to his Guru whose Gurdwara is in Pakistan.
Former Indian cricketer and present Minister in Indian Punjab Sidhu commented, whenever the history will be re-written Imran Khan’s name will be engraved in beautiful words.
Sidhu urged that bloodshed must end between the two countries and thanked Pakistani government for taking this positive initiative.
Gurdwara is about four km from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine. The corridor is expected to be built in less than an year.
