WHO chief hails Pakistan’s efforts for polio eradication

Islamabad: World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus  appreciated the efforts of Pakistan for polio eradication on Monday.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed that Pakistan would soon be among the states that are polio-free, This is achieved through joint efforts of Government and World Health Organization, he mentioned.

He also expressed his contentment over the measures and reforms taken by the government.

He paid visit to polio emergency operations center and applauded the performance of the officials to eradicate polio performance of its officials. The WHO chief said that Pakistan has got control over a deadly disease just like every other developing country.

Federal Health Minister Aamir Mehmood Kiani while briefing the WHO officials said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government is dedicated to remove Polio from the country. He also termed the health workers as heroes.

WHO DG Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus landed in Pakistan on Sunday to attend a polio conference in Islamabad.

The conference was scheduled to be held in Islamabad on Monday (today) at the Prime Minister House. Dr Ghebreyesus will likely meet Imran Khan at his office.
