Prime Minister Imran Khan will lead a federal cabinet meeting today (Thursday). During the meeting, a 26-point agenda is likely to be discussed.
The cabinet will review the names of 172 people that are placed on ECL in fake accounts case. It would decide whether it should remain on the Exit Control List or not.
The cabinet session on January 2 decided that the names should not be removed from the list immediately. The Supreme Court had previously asked the rationale behind putting the names of 172 people in no-fly list. The cabinet decided that the names will be review on case-by-cases basis so no suspicious person is ignored.
The relevant agencies were asked to submit their replies and recommendations to the interior ministry, after which committee will review the names. The committee report will be presented to the cabinet of Thursday.
“We took the step because of the precedent which has been set. The government helped a person being investigated escape from the country. Former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi gave his plane to Ishaq Dar [former finance minister] and helped him escape,” said Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry.
The cabinet will also approve the removal of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Murad Ali Shah’s name from ECL.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is also likely to approve the extension of military courts.
